Selca Valley - come and you will definitely be charmed
This area is sure to captivate you. Towering mountains give way to majestic forests and green meadows, charmingly arranged villages, and friendly locals who cherish and preserve millennia-old traditions, proudly sharing them with visitors from near and far.
You are warmly invited to join one of our many themed guided tours of your choice, where you’ll discover the natural and cultural beauty of the valley, all while enjoying delicious local cuisine and creating unforgettable memories.
Visit Železniki, one of the oldest ironworking towns in the region of Carniola, with origins dating back to the first half of the 14th century. Its rich history is still alive today. Explore fascinating sites such as old ironworks mansions, mine shafts, and the mighty blast furnace. With engaging storytelling at the Železniki Museum, you’ll gain a vivid insight into the lives of blacksmiths and lace-makers who once thrived here.
Take in the views from Sorica, considered one of the most picturesque mountain villages in Slovenia. This charming village hides a nearly forgotten centuries-old history, rich natural and cultural heritage, unique architectural features, friendly locals, untouched surroundings, and a distinctive local dialect. Visitors of all ages are invited to learn something new and experience the harmony of nature and culture at the Štoba and Grohar House. The warm-hearted village nestled under the mountains awaits your visit.
Selca Valley also invites you to explore the natural wonders of Davča, the largest village in Slovenia, where you can visit the beautifully curated Flax Museum or marvel at the Davča Waterfalls.
Also visit Dražgoše, the sunniest village in the valley, located on natural terraces beneath the Jelovica plateau. Dražgoše is known for its traditional honey-bread cookies and its role in the more recent history of the Battle of Dražgoše.
Then there’s Selca—the oldest village in the valley, first mentioned in the year 973, when these lands were governed by bishops from distant Freising in Bavaria.
You can also hike the slopes of Soriška Planina, following the so-called "Path with a View", where breathtaking panoramas of Slovenia’s highest Alpine peaks are complemented by a glimpse into the mysterious world of tunnels and bunkers from the formidable Alpine Wall, a former military fortification line.
During your visit to the Selca Valley, you can also take part in hands-on workshops, where experienced local artisans will teach you how to make traditional Dražgoše honey-bread cookies, forge nails, paint beehive panels, fasten flax, or bobbin lace in the distinctive Železniki style.
You can also challenge yourself with our unique experience, Escape from the Town, where while exploring Železniki’s cultural heritage, you’ll solve clever riddles that lead you to the final goal.
For multi-day visits, a variety of accommodation options are available, and you can enjoy authentic local cuisine in one of the many inns and restaurants—offering everything from gourmet dishes to homemade traditional delights.
