Today, dreams are allowed. Grand Départ
This year’s Tour de France is special. Will Slovenia host the Grand Départ? Together, we dream big dreams and cheer for our cyclists!
As of today, July 18, 2025, it is official: Slovenia will bid to host the Grand Départ of the Tour de France in 2029. The official letter of intent from the Slovenian government will be handed over to the race organizer, A.S.O., by Prime Minister Robert Golob before the final 21st stage of this year’s Tour de France.

Matej Mohorič supports the Grand Départ in Slovenia
The project to bring the Tour de France Grand Départ to Slovenia is supported by all three top Slovenian cyclists: Tadej Pogačar, Primož Roglič, and Matej Mohorič, who has also served as ambassador of L'Etape Slovenia by Tour de France for four years. The government has approved the decision regarding the letter of intent, and today, in addition to Prime Minister Golob, the idea was presented to the public by the President of the Slovenian Cycling Federation, Pavel Marđonović, and the Director of the Tour of Slovenia, Bogdan Fink, who also serves as Technical Director of L'Etape Slovenia.
L'Etape Slovenia – a unifying event
We are proud that L'Etape Slovenia by Tour de France, which will once again draw cycling enthusiasts of all ages to Kranj for a variety of race formats this year, has become a unique connecting platform—where we can experience the spirit of the great race and dream without limits, in athletic spirit and good shape. L'Etape Slovenia, organized by Sport Media Focus, is part of the global L'Etape by Tour de France series, run by the same agency (A.S.O.) as the Tour de France.
