Cycling experiences in the Vodice municipality
For the fourth consecutive year the Municipality of Vodice is supporting the organization of L’Etape Slovenia.
The L’Etape Slovenia cycling event further strengthens the Municipality of Vodice’s status as a cycling oasis, where sport, nature, and tradition intertwine. For the fourth consecutive year, the Municipality of Vodice is supporting the organization of L’Etape Slovenia and invites you to discover it by bike – on an unforgettable journey through its picturesque landscapes.
Just a few kilometers north of Ljubljana
Just a few kilometers north of Ljubljana, in close proximity to Jože Pučnik Airport and the motorway connection, lies the Municipality of Vodice. It borders six other municipalities: to the south, the City Municipality of Ljubljana; to the west, Medvode and Šenčur; to the north, Cerklje na Gorenjskem; and to the east, Komenda and Mengeš.
All of the municipality’s natural and cultural attractions, as well as its surrounding villages, are easily accessible by bike via well-marked routes.
Idyllic and unspoiled nature
Vodice is located in a predominantly agricultural area, surrounded by scenic hills, the Škofja Loka Hills, and the majestic Kamnik–Savinja Alps. On clear days, views stretch all the way to the peaks of the Julian Alps.
Vodice offers a rich natural and cultural heritage that cyclists can explore while riding along idyllic routes.
The L’Etape Slovenia route through Vodice
The Sunday L’Etape Slovenia challenge will also take cyclists through Vodice. Coming from the direction of Smlednik, they will reach the village of Zapoge – a clustered settlement in the Municipality of Vodice – around the 27th kilometer.
Along the way, cyclists will pass the Church of St. Margaret, first mentioned in the 12th century. Its Baroque appearance remained until the 1895 earthquake, which caused such severe damage that the church had to be demolished.
Cycling paths and sustainable mobility
The municipality is also part of the project Mreža poti LAS – LAS Za mesto in vas (“The LAS Network of Paths – For the Town and Countryside”), which connects six municipalities with safe cycling routes and promotes sustainable mobility.
Famous Vodice pretzels
When energy runs low or you crave a snack, treat yourself to the famous Vodice pretzels. At the Jagodic family bakery, they’ve been making them for four generations, using a 16th-century recipe carefully passed down from generation to generation. The reputation of these pretzels has long spread far beyond the municipality’s borders.
