As part of the Merkur zavarovalnica L’Etape Slovenia by Tour de France cycling events, participants on the shorter Sunday route, the 80 km Decathlon the Ride, and the longer 130 km Tosidos the Race, compete for the original, iconic Tour de France jerseys.

Historically, women’s sport developed slowly, as there was long a belief that intense physical activity was harmful to the female body. At the first modern Olympic Games in 1896, women were not allowed to compete; they first took part in 1900 in Paris, and only in selected disciplines.

Join the Rio Mare L’Etape Slovenia 2026 Team

Last year, we formed both a women’s and a men’s Rio Mare team, competing on the shorter Sunday course. This year, we are once again opening spots in both teams—the women’s team, led by Simona Fabjan, former professional beach volleyball player, and the men’s team, led by Jure Košir, Olympian and former elite alpine skier.
