The Merkur zavarovalnica Business Ride, 34 km long, held in two formats:

• a competitive race in pairs, and
• a non-competitive group ISO Ride, accompanied by an official vehicle.

Closed roads, official vehicle escort, a festive supporters' atmosphere. No restrictions on bike type - e-bikes are also allowed.

Future Heroes - Children's Cycling challenges for the youngest riders on balance bikes and for primary-school-age children in various age categories, held on an 800m loop right next to the central venue on Slovenski trg square.

A Family group ride of 12,5km on a flat route around Kranj, starting and finishing right next to the venue on Slovenski trg square.

Due to limited places for the children's challenges and the family ride, free advance registration is required, made possible by Gorenjska banka.

Dare to challenge Matej Mohorič in what feels like the shortest time-trial-style experience in the world - a 500m sprint climb up Jelenov klanec in the centre of Kranj, right next to the venue. This exclusive challenge has a limited number of starting places - only 100.

L'Etape Slovenia under the Tour de France banner is an unforgettable experience for every amateur road cyclist. This unique event on a stunning course offers the chance to ride in a vibrant international cycling peloton while also competing for the iconic Tour de France jerseys - the Yellow, Green, Polka Dot, and White Jerseys.

We want as many amateur cyclists as possible to enjoy this special experience, so we have prepared two stages - two distances - with the same entry price for both. The 2026 routes are still being finalised, but the distance will be similar to previous editions.

Race number collection for each cycling event within the Merkur zavarovalnica L'Etape Slovenia by Tour de France festival follows a schedule that will be published no later than one week before the event.

Only pre-registered participants with a paid entry fee (where applicable) are allowed to take part in the events. Joining the route during the event without prior registration is not permitted. Competing under another person's name or using a race number assigned to someone else is strictly prohibited. Such conduct constitutes sporting fraud and will result in automatic disqualification.

For all cycling events, participants must collect their race number no later than one hour before the start of their event. Participation without a race number is not permitted.

The purpose of recreational races is not to encourage competitiveness, but to promote a healthy and active way of spending free time.

Taking part in a race requires a certain level of physical fitness and good physical and mental condition. Overexerting your body without professional guidance is not beneficial and can even be harmful. The guiding principle of recreational sport is enjoyment - pure enjoyment, socialising, making connections, and keeping the body in good shape for a higher quality of life in older age.

Before the race

• Personalised race number (for the back and the bike) and a timing chip.
• A sticker for one piece of small luggage, to be dropped off at the designated spot on race day.
• A welcome bag featuring L'Etape Slovenia branding with a selection of gifts from our partners, plus the official L'Etape map with all race details and practical information about the start/finish area.
• Bike parking available in the L'Etape village in Kranj, where you can leave your bike in a secured area for a set time slot.

During the race

• Assistance from medical staff.
• Free technical assistance at the start/finish area, along the route, and at refreshment stations.
• Free drinks and snacks at refreshment stations.
• The chance to compete for genuine Tour de France jerseys: at the marked sprint segment for the green jersey, at the mountain finish for the polka-dot jersey, the yellow jersey for the best time on the course, and the white jersey for the fastest time among the youngest participants.
• If you have to stop due to force majeure, transport to the finish is provided.

After the race

• A medal for completing the race.
• A free meal at the finish, redeemable with a voucher included in the welcome bag.

Merkur zavarovalnica L'Etape Slovenia by Tour de France cycling challenges take place on roads closed to other traffic and/or escorted by safety vehicles, so roads and access points along the routes are occasionally closed completely for short periods (30–60 minutes). Safety is ensured by police in vehicles and on motorbikes, medical staff, technical assistance, and numerous marshals.

L'Etape Slovenia route segments on the Rouvy platform

For all indoor-trainer cycling enthusiasts, we have prepared three rides - three workouts. The longer route from the inaugural L'Etape Slovenia by Tour de France 2022 has been split into three stages, which you can ride virtually on >>> the Rouvy platform.

In planning and running the event, we strive to adopt measures to reduce our environmental carbon footprint, and we carefully plan our activities in line with the United Nations' (UN) 17 Sustainable Development Goals.

The choice of host city is also no coincidence: Kranj has a rich cycling history and tradition, holds the platinum label of the Slovenian Green Scheme of Tourism, and the title of European Destination of Excellence 2023. Accessibility and proximity to public transport, as well as to Ljubljana Jože Pučnik Airport, also played an important role, given that this is an event with international participation.
