Škofja Loka is a picturesque, ancient town located at the confluence of the Poljanska and Selška Sora rivers, where the Alpine hills meet the plains in the heart of Slovenia.
It is a vibrant town with a rich history, cultural heritage, and beautiful green countryside. It serves as an excellent starting point and an increasingly attractive destination for tourist visits, culinary experiences, excursions, and hiking and cycling challenges of varying difficulty. Enjoy the cycling routes across Škofja Loka
Cycling enthusiasts can enjoy well-maintained and clearly marked cycling routes across the rolling Škofja Loka hills, the Polhov Gradec Dolomites, and the Sora plain, all connected in the 390-kilometre-long Loška Cycling Route.
Hikers will also be delighted with the Loška Mountain Trail – a beautiful, varied long-distance hiking route made up of 12 easy to moderately demanding stages with a total length of 188 kilometres.
All the routes pass numerous cultural and natural attractions – from rural churches, abandoned military fortifications, and viewpoints to inns, refreshment stops, tourist farms, and mountain lodges.
These trails are not only a sporting challenge but also an experience of natural and cultural heritage. Along the way, you will meet many local providers – beekeepers, winemakers, artists, and restaurateurs who enrich cycling and hiking trips with local delicacies and genuine hospitality.
We pay special attention to sustainable development. With new safe, interconnected urban and inter-municipal cycling routes, we are creating a friendly environment for all road users. We are building modern infrastructure with secure bicycle parking, electric charging stations, and an increasingly extensive network of routes also suitable for everyday mobility.
We have established the eKOLOka bike-sharing system, offering both regular and electric bicycles, as part of the Gorenjska.Bike regional network, connecting towns across almost the entire Gorenjska region. Bikes can be rented and returned in several towns – quickly, easily, and in an environmentally friendly way.
Our routes are also suitable for families with children. Nearby you will find playgrounds, educational trails, and scenic rest stops where you can relax, learn something new, or simply enjoy a picnic surrounded by nature.
Throughout the year, Škofja Loka hosts numerous sports and cultural events – from Historial to Pisane Loka, Loka in the Snow, the Four Bridges Run, and more. The L’Etape Slovenia cycling race in our town also brings together cycling enthusiasts.
