Taiwanese Youth Visit Slovenia to Learn About Cycling, Sports Tourism and Event Management
Young Taiwanese volunteers joined this year’s L’Etape Slovenia cycling festival.
Between August 25 and September 15, 2026, Slovenia hosted a 12-member youth delegation from Taiwan as part of the Taiwan Global Pathfinders Initiative, a program led by Taiwan’s Ministry of Education. The project, titled Cycling & Coffee Adventure in Europe, focuses on exploring best practices in cycling, sports tourism, urban marketing, and the organization of international sporting events.
Young Professionals Expanded Their Knowledge Through L’Etape Slovenia
The delegation consisted of young professionals, students, and representatives from the sports, marketing, media, and public sectors, aged between 18 and 30. During their visit, they examined how Slovenia has successfully connected elite sport, sustainable development, tourism, and national branding through the I Feel Slovenia brand, using sport as an important tool for economic development and international promotion.
The program included visits to KD Rog Ljubljana, Pogi Team Gusto Ljubljana, and the University of Ljubljana, as well as an in-depth look at the organizational and marketing aspects of Merkur zavarovalnica L’Etape Slovenia by Tour de France. Particular attention was given to understanding youth athlete development systems, cycling infrastructure, sports tourism, and the creation of strong sports brands.
At the conclusion of their visit, the participants presented their observations from various perspectives, proposed ideas and solutions, and explored opportunities for future collaboration while taking into account cultural and socio-economic differences.
In its own unique way, the visit laid the foundations and opened the door for long-term cooperation and knowledge exchange between Slovenia and Taiwan in the fields of cycling tourism and the development of active sporting communities.
