Race - longer route of Sunday’s L’Étape Slovenia Changed

The Sunday longer route - the Race of the Merkur zavarovalnica L'Etape Slovenia by Tour de France has been modified to now measure 130 km with 1,800 meters of elevation gain.

The longer route - the Race of the L’Étape Slovenia 2025 has been changed in the second — western — part of the loop. Out of respect for the long-standing tradition of the Municipality of Tržič, which organizes the Šuštarska nedelja every first Sunday in September, we have rerouted the course to avoid passing through the Tržič area. The new route is slightly shorter but leads through the exceptionally scenic landscapes of the Municipality of Železniki. It now measures 130 km and features 1,800 meters of total elevation.

Main Change: From Podblica into the Selca Valley

The route has been modified in the second, western section of the loop. After completing the shorter loop and crossing the start-finish zone in Kranj, riders on the long route continue toward Besnica, then climb through Podblica. At the intersection with the fountain offering natural drinking water, they will take a sharp left turn toward Dražgoše.

Second Mountain Climb: From Podblica to Jedrt Pass

The second mountain segment will be marked from Nemilje to the widened section of road just before Jedrt Pass, located at 885 m above sea level. The iconic climb through Podblica remains a feature of the route, where locals and fans always create an unforgettable, electric atmosphere.

Dražgoše – The Sunniest Village

Dražgoše is considered the sunniest village in the Selca Valley, set on natural terraces beneath the Jelovica Plateau. It boasts a rich tradition of “dražgoški kruhki” (traditional gingerbread cookies) and the more recent history of the Battle of Dražgoše from World War II. At the top of the village, breathtaking panoramic views open up, making you forget any leg fatigue — and you’ll have crossed the 100-kilometer mark of the course. A descent follows, which is technically challenging, so extreme caution is advised as the road is damaged in places.

Through Selca Toward Škofja Loka

After descending from Dražgoše to Rudno, the route continues through Selca toward Škofja Loka, where it turns left off the main road into the village of Ševlje, continuing through Knape, over Strmica, and up to Čepulje Pass. A short category 3 climb is followed by a descent beneath St. Jošt above Kranj into Stražišče. From here, the route leads to Ljubljanska Road, and finally to the finish line in Kranj, with one last ascent up Jelenov klanec.
